This is my eleven-year-old sister’s speech for school on a topic that she feels very, very strongly about. She chose gay rights and I’m so, so proud of her. My parents have raised us to be accepting of all people, and obviously they’re doing a great job. This is a perfect example that even the younger generation is full of compassion and open minds for those who are shunned/looked down on because of their sexuality.
When my mom posted this to Facebook, she tagged Lady Gaga in it. Lady Gaga is Leehem’s idol, and despite all of the popularity her speech is getting from people all around the world, she keeps asking,
“Did Lady Gaga like it yet?”
I think Leehem just wants her to know that she believes just as strongly as she does that baby, we were born this way.

“I created this series of photos in response to Iran’s president Ahmadinejad’s naive comments that we do not have homosexuality in Iran. I wanted to say that we do have homosexuals and we have lots of them. My hope was to give solace to Muslims who feel they cannot be Muslims and homosexuals at the same time. I wanted to say that your love for God or belief in good for humanity should not determine who you’re choosing to love. My hope is that more people come to see that we should leave people to make their own choices, regarding who they want to love. I think the message of love from all of the prophets was lost, in all the noise from the later organizers of religions and their followers. I wish to remind people of that original intention of our belief in a higher good.” -

This makes me happy beyond belief.

Gay people are born into, and belong to, every society in the world. They are all ages, all races, all faiths. They are doctors and teachers, farmers and bankers, soldiers and athletes. And whether we know it or whether we acknowledge it, they are our family, our friends, and our neighbors. Being gay is not a Western invention. It is a human reality.
